When Edward Tomilloso from Hook2Cook hit me up on messenger, and said he wanted to go fishing with me, I was like… “for real?!” Mind blown! I mean.. I moved out to Ventura from WA state, because I was inspired by the fishing channels on youtube. I started my own little channel VINCE GOES FISHING for that reason. And now I get to fish with Ed!? WOW!
We fished for hours, Catching just two fish between all of us. We had a really hard time finding a bite. And so far we had seen zero halibut.
So at some point it dawned on me that we had fished the heck out of this one stretch of beach for hours and hours and we hadn’t caught a single halibut. And I asked myself… So if the halibut are not HERE today, then where are they? Then I thought to myself, what if all the halibut got pushed down to one side of the beach overnight? Like, what if they chased a big school of bait fish into the cove or something, and we’re just fishing the wrong part of the beach? So I told the guys I’m heading down the beach, and headed all the way down to a spot where I have caught fish in the past, to see if maybe they were all down there.
Sure enough, we started getting bites…
Then we started catching!
Jason caught his PB, a 26” halibut!
Minutes later, I caught a 27” halibut. On my 41st Birthday.
After that I didn’t care about catching fish anymore, I just really wanted to see Leroy and Ed catch a Halibut.
Eventually, we decided to call it a day, we went to a park for a birthday catch and cook celebration!
I love what Ed said. “Your best friends are out there and you haven’t even met them yet.” So I guess the suggestion is, get out there and fish with new people. Create those friendships.
Thank you for an awesome 41st Birthday guys!
