Banning TikTok would do basically nothing to protect your data
Banning TikTok is a popular political pledge. But getting rid of the app won’t protect our data. Governments abroad and in the U.S. already collect enormous amounts of user data through digital data markets. Information collected from user’s social media, dating apps and even cars are all on the digital data marketplace—and though it’s anonymized, it’s not impossible to identify individuals in the datasets.
