"Operation Bunker" is the second of a series of games under the general title " Archives of the NKVD: The hunt for the Fuhrer". (The first part was called "Operation Valkyrie"). The main character is a Soviet intelligence officer Mikhail Ivanov, introduced into the Gestapo under the name Gerhard Mayer. In July 1944, he received a cipher from the center with a short order-to kill Adolf Hitler.
Ivanov's first action was an attempt to establish contact with a group of anti-fascists led by a retired General Beck. However, here the scout was not lucky. Literally on the same day when he achieved the first tangible results, one of the leaders of the group, Klaus Schenk von Stauffenberg, made an attempt on the Fuhrer, and his associates in Berlin tried to seize power through a military putsch. Both operations ended in failure. The only thing that Mayer-Ivanov was able to do was to save one of the members of the conspiracy, adjutant Otto Hefner, from the Gestapo, and thereby find a loyal ally.
Hefner provided invaluable assistance to the Soviet intelligence officer in organizing the second attempt on Hitler's life when he was staying at the Adlerhorst castle. Ivanov managed to plant a bomb in the Fuhrer's personal plane, but his double turned out to be in the Junkers instead of Hitler…
