Many are aware of a much discussed revolution in media facility architecture, where signals no longer flow over coax cables (and life is good and the sky sunny). How real are the prospects for such a revolution?
To make it concrete, a number of areas of the ecosystem needed to be changed, not just the basic media flows themselves. SMPTE has had standards for baseband media over IP for several years, but they were not widely implemented for studio applications.
Why hasn't this change been implemented on a larger scale? This special SMPTE Standards Update webcast will address the reasons and summarize the new SMPTE standards published this year which will permit easier construction of "IP islands" in coax plants.
