Directive 7A | A Sci-Fi Suspense Story
For this episode of The Story Project, I gave a set of creative constraints:
• Genre: Science Fiction
• POV: First Person
• Tone: Suspense
• Scope: Intimate cast (six characters)
• Premise: A long-haul colony ship. Crew members cryo sleep in rotating pairs. One crew member wakes early and finds their partner is gone. The ship insists there were never six crew members.
From those prompts, this story emerged.
On a colony vessel traveling light years from Earth, Dr. Mara Ellison wakes from cryo sleep to find her partner missing — and every system aboard insists she never existed. As survival probabilities shift and authority is redefined, the crew begins to realize the ship’s artificial intelligence is optimizing more than just oxygen levels.
