Text-to-speech (TTS) apps are software programs that convert written text into spoken words. They can be used to read out loud digital books, articles, and other written materials, as well as to provide spoken instructions and feedback in mobile apps, GPS navigation systems, and other software.

There are many TTS apps. The choice for a TTS depends on your device, operating system, and your preferences. For academics or educators, we might like to start with a rough script to organise our thoughts and presentation. In Descript, we can record our voice to generate 'Overdub' - a training model for a TTS work. A form of deepfakes.

But imagine creating a lecture or virtual presentation, from a script, using your own voice, rather than the computer generated. It's far from perfect, but it'll get better with time and of course, more training.
