Fiesta 2013 Instrument Cluster Dials Fault
I have a Fiesta 1.25 2013 with a fault with the dials.
First I turn the key to the II position, both the Rev & Speedo moves to zero together with the fuel gauge showing the fuel level as normal.
Sometimes when I turn the engine from cold and fires up, all of the dials will drop below zero and judders especially the Rev counter for the first few seconds and then goes back to normal.
Also the average fuel consumption reading on the trip computer keeps resetting.
I put the video to see if anyone else has this problem & for anyone could tell me what causing the problem.
The engine runs fine.
Sometimes the Spanner light will come on for about 1 second and quickly goes out, but very rarely it does that.
Sometimes this fault will occur if your battery voltage is below 12V. The dealer had already fitted a new battery for free but the fault returns after a few months.
I did a Instrument cluster test (Hold reset button for 3 seconds and turn key to II position) and is not doing the gauge sweep.
I recommend the following proceedure if you have a similar problem:-
1: Check the battery voltage, it should be no lower than 12 volts. If it is and you crank the engine, the starter motor will take nearly all of the energy and the cluster unit will turn off as there is insufficient power and as soon as the engine fires up, the cluster unit will go through a start up procedure and shake the dials.
2: If the battery voltage is fine and the cluster unit does not turn off during cranking. Then you need to do a cluster unit test by first holding down the trip computer reset button (the only button on the unit which is sticking out), turn ignition key to the II position (key start models), for button start models:- push ENGINE START button with foot off the pedals (do not release the button just yet). Do not crank engine!
3: As soon as you see TEST on the cluster unit, let go of the reset button and you should see GUAGE and the dials should sweep across to the other side and back again. If it does that, then the unit is fine. If not, there is some problem with the unit.
4: You can keep pressing the reset button to perform other tests, otherwise just turn off the ignition.
