Veteran actor MICHAEL ROOKER talks to Bonnie Laufer @movi_boni about his new movie, Love and Monsters and the upcoming Fast and Furious 9!
Michael Rooker is best known for his role as “Yondu” in THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY franchise, and the character “Merle” in the wildly popular series THE WALKING DEAD. He and 13-year-old Ariana Greenblatt team up in LOVE AND MONSTERS as a pair of expert survivalists facing down the giant creatures that have taken over the Earth’s surface. Greenblatt was named “One to Watch” on The Hollywood Reporter’s 2019 Young Hollywood List and is best known for her scene-stealing turn as “Young Gamora” in the blockbuster hit AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.
LOVE AND MONSTERS takes place seven years after the Monsterpocalypse. Joel Dawson (Dylan O’Brien), along with the rest of humanity, has been living underground ever since giant creatures took control of the land. After reconnecting over radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is now 80 miles away at a coastal colony, Joel begins to fall for her again. As Joel realizes that there’s nothing left for him underground, he decides to venture out to Aimee. Along the way he makes unlikely friends including a heroic dog and a pair of survivalists (Michael Rooker & Ariana Greenblatt) who help him survive the monster-infested road to true love.
Michael Rooker just wrapped a leading role in James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD opposite Margot Robbie, Taika Waititi, and Idris Elba. He also wrapped production on FAST AND FURIOUS 9 opposite Charlize Theron. Earlier this year, Rooker shot a leading role in FANTASY ISLAND for Blumhouse/Sony. In television, he will next star in the pilot DARK TOWER for Amazon/MRC. Most recently Michael could be seen opposite Mahershala Ali in TRUE DETECTIVE for HBO.
