Using the Pioneer DDJ SX as a Midi Controller in FL Studio
In this video I use the DDJ SX as a midi controller in FL Studio. I haven't seen any videos of anyone else using it this way, so I wanted to scratch the surface and show you how well the DDJ SX performs as a midi controller.
Overall, it performs awesome! It's sensitive, fast, and performs as accurate as it does for regular DJ use. You can midi map the knobs and faders, but the 8 pads on each side are equal to each other meaning when you strike a pad on one side, you're triggering the same pad on the other side. I'm not sure if this can be changed.
When using a mic to pass audio through and record, I wasn't crazy about the quality. I got a lot of digital breakup, lag, but this was most like a user setting that was off or wrong at the time. I was have a couple other audio issues that day. I will create another video and see if I can take another shot at it.
Another thing I wasn't crazy about was using the jog wheels in midi mode. Because of the touch sensitive technology they use, I couldn't use the jog wheel to scratch, or blend in midi mode. I could only use it as another instrument pad - which worked pretty well for that purpose.
Overall, the DDJ SX is awesome for making beats and music. This is another way that the DDJ SX is versatile and continues to raise the bar for midi controllers.
