Can a 15 year old laptop still be usable in 2026?
In this video I test Void Linux with XFCE on an old HP laptop with 4GB RAM and a mechanical HDD to see if this lightweight Linux distribution can bring old hardware back to life.
Void Linux is a unique Linux distribution that is not based on Debian, Ubuntu or Arch. It uses the runit init system instead of systemd, which helps keep the system fast, minimal and extremely lightweight.
Because of this design, Void Linux is often recommended for older computers, low end hardware and minimal Linux setups.
In this video we take a look at:
• Void Linux XFCE desktop experience
• RAM usage on a 4GB system
• Performance on a 15 year old laptop
• Web browsing and basic tasks
• Comparison with other lightweight Linux distributions
If you have an old laptop sitting around, Void Linux might be a great way to give it a second life.
