Feeling sorry for yourself does not mean saying “poor me, poor”.
It’s about not willing to take pain, leave our comfort zone, and change.
Self-pity is the flip side of powerlessness.
⠀
And, by the way, it is inversely proportional to the level of our success. If you are only 1/10 successful in something, it means that you have 9/10 self-pity in that area.
⠀
The difficulty is that this is one of our root emotions, it lies deep. And, as you can imagine, it can manifest itself in different areas of life. Just because you don't have self-pity in one theme doesn’t mean you don’t have it in other themes either.
⠀
But you can still work with it. And I see four basic steps.
⠀
1) Set a Goal. Your focus should be on something you want to achieve, not something you want to avoid. (Don't try to run away from self-pity.)
⠀
2) Engage your body with practices. All religions are built on bodily austerities precisely on the basis of the principle that making the body feel uncomfortable and painful, we give it an imitation of being close to death. And this is the way to a new level.
Therefore, be sure to do bodily practices in the area where your Purpose lies.
⠀
3) Find an internal source of energy. Something that you can rely on in yourself, experiencing the pressure of the world while doing your practices.
⠀
4) Learn to work with emotions. Cultivate a state of acceptance in yourself and pull out those inner emotional splinters that have been sitting in your body since childhood.
