The Soviet heavy tank, KV-1 was mass-produced from 1940 to August 1942 and managed to receive its baptism of fire in the Soviet-Finnish War before the Great Patriotic War. A total of 3,235 units were produced. The KV-1 tank can rightfully be considered the best heavy tank of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. German soldiers called this machine "ghost". KV-1 tanks fought on all fronts of the Great Patriotic War, first as part of mixed tank brigades, then as part of separate guards breakthrough tank regiments. Very few KV tanks survived until 1945, used as combat tanks. - Basically, after dismantling the turret, they served as evacuation tractors.
