Start by boosting up the Serpent Hunter weapon as much as you can. Have a couple mana flasks on-hand for phase two and claw talisman for extra damage on jump attacks. For phase one you can mix in a combination of jump attacks and the Serpent Hunter special attack to wear him down. It took me a second to figure out in phase two, you can just spam the Serpent Hunter special attack and it will cancel his attack animations (FP permitting). Just take a step back after each attack to avoid the lava damage.
