Sound Design, music, and the arts would be nothing without the contributions of Black creators. Sound Design is a field traditionally dominated by white men, but thankfully that demographic is finally changing. Educate yourself about the history of racial inequality within your field, and what you can do to end it. While you’re at it, listen to the work of William Grant Still, a Black American composer born in 1895 who overcame so much oppression in his life to bring the world incredible music. His story and music are beyond inspiring.

Hopefully this video gives you insight into the process of making a monster noise. It’s obviously not entirely informational and, quite frankly, mostly silly and entertaining, but I tried to include as many tips as I could. I am by no means a professional sound designer, and everything I’ve learned has come from my own experiences in school and game development. This was a blast to make, and I really hope you like it!
For more about sound design, I’d recommend reading “The Foley Grail” by Vanessa Theme Ament. It’s a great resource for how to make specific, common sounds, as well as a comprehensive history of sound design. Here on YouTube you should also check out Marshall McGee, who makes incredible videos on sound design for video games: / marshallsguitarfun
