John 1:17 ESV For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
In the book of John, Jesus is described as the embodiment of grace and truth. This verse is often used to contrast the Old Testament law with the New Testament gospel of grace. The law, given through Moses, was external and based on performance. In contrast, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Grace is unmerited favor; it is a gift that we cannot earn or deserve. And truth is absolute; it does not change based on our circumstances or opinions. Together, these two qualities provide a firm foundation for our faith. Grace shows us that we are loved unconditionally, and truth gives us confidence that we can trust God's word. As we walk with Christ, we are constantly challenged and transformed by his grace and truth.

In the Bible, John 1:17 states that "For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." This verse is often quoted to contrast the Old Testament with the New Testament. Under the Old Testament, the law was given to Moses on Mount Sinai. This was a system of rules and regulations that the people of Israel were required to follow. The law was meant to show them how to live righteously before God. However, it was also a burden, as it was impossible for anyone to perfectly keep all of the laws. In contrast, under the New Testament, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Grace is God's unmerited favor toward us. He extends His grace to us even though we don't deserve it. And truth refers to the reality of who Jesus is as the Son of God. He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Because of what Jesus has done for us, we can now have a personal relationship with God. We no longer need to try to earn His favor by keeping a set of rules; instead, we simply need to receive His grace and love.
