Missile Defense, Europe, and Italy
Europe's missile defense is facing a significant technological acceleration in weapons systems, including hypersonic weapons, amid a renewed geopolitical confrontation between global and regional powers. For European countries, integrating national structures into the NATO architecture and cooperating within the EU framework for the joint development of new capabilities represents the path forward. This path presents both challenges and opportunities for Italy, both military and industrial.
During the webinar "Missile Defense, Europe, and Italy," the new IAI study, "Europe's Missile Defense and Italy: Capabilities and Cooperation," was presented. It was followed by remarks by Chief of Defense Staff Enzo Vecciarelli, Leonardo CEO Alessandro Profumo, AIAD President Guido Crosetto, and MBDA Italia CEO Lorenzo Mariani. The event, moderated by Airpress and Formiche Director Flavia Giacobbe, concluded with a speech by Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini.
