Animatronic Talking Robot Head Made With Arduino Android and LEGO
Homemade animatronic head made with Arduino, smartphone and common electronics to control the robot movement.
I used a total of 9 servo motors. 4 servo motors for the eye movement mechanism.
2 servo motors for the mouth (1 for upper and 1 for lower mouth)
2 servo motors for the tilting left and right.
The last servo motor is a high-torque servo located at the base for turning.
The robot structure was built using LEGO Technic compatible toy parts and the eyes are from a pair of doorbell.
This app is derived from Android ML Kit quickstart sample.

The Robot uses Google ML Kit for the face detection, object detection and text recognition.
The speech recognition is using Google's speech recognition.
Using Android Studio, I added the speech recognition function to the machine learning example code and install the app to the smartphone. The coding is quite simple, just get the values from the detected face/object/text and pass it to the Arduino micro-controller via USB (or Bluetooth) to control the robot movements or response. I switched between face/object/text detection by commands (e.g. 'What is this','read the text') and revert back the face detection by default.

The robot mouth movement uses the JawDuino Arduino library/code.
