The tapping of the keg
Ein prosit, ein prosit! The ceremonial keg tapping kicks off the start of Oktoberfest, the nine-day celebration of Bavarian culture that Kitchener is famous for. Don't stand too close to the keg!
Opening weekend for Oktoberfest 2011 featured the keg tapping and the Oktoberfest parade, which is televised nationally. About 22,000 people gathered along King Street in Waterloo and Kitchener to watch the parade.
