Today I want to shed light on Seneca Village. Once home to about 225 mostly African American people in the 1820s, now known as Central Park. Consisted of churches, schools, homes and black businesses. In the 1850s the land was forcibly taken away so that the city of New York could create a park for Manhattans growing population. Many artifacts and remains from the village remain buried under the grounds of the park. Thank you to my roommate @umibeii for shedding light on this important part of history for me and pushing me to do my own research on it.
