The Concept of Hydrophilicity
Straumann SLActive Osseointegration. The surface is hydrophilic which allows blood to cover more of the available surface area of the implant. The benefit of the hydrophilicity of SLActive is that blood is able to access more of the available surface area on the implant. Very simply put, with SLActive more of the implant surface is covered by blood at time of implant placement. This contact with the blood is an important step in initiating the osseointegration process.
