AIX VIO tutorial to learn basics. Welcome to VIO introduction demo session. Know its importance and other useful details. AIX VIO server information also have to be receive by you. Know regarding various concepts covered. Be aware of fundamentals from Virtual I/O server tutorial.

Our real time faculty has 8 years of experience in multiple domains. You need to get various details from VIO tutorial. Here I/O is input, output. Participants required find correct information on this AIX VIO tutorial. Take part in this session till end.

After this session you should about to understand.
List the reasons for implementing virtual I/O.
Describe the implementation of virtual I/O.
Install and configure the virtual I/O server product.
Configure a partition to use virtual devices.
Describe and configure virtual optical device backed by file.

Virtual I/O introduction:
What is virtual I/0?

It is sharing physical resources (adapters) between partitions.
It is available on power5 and power6 processor based system
Its client partitions may be running AIX 5LV5.3, AIX6.1 or Linux
(SLES 9, SLES10, RHEL3, RHEL4 and RHEL5).

Driven by partitioning:
Power5 and power6 architecture supports up-to 254 partitions.
Hardware supports more partitions than there are PCI slots to support them. Here slots became limiting factor.

System example:
A fully configured P5-570.It supports up to 160 partitions.
Also supports up to of 160 PCI-X slots.

Benefits of Virtualized I/O:
In this partitions can be created without requiring additional physical I/O resources.

Economical I/O model: Efficient utilization resources through sharing.
Facilitates server consolidation.
It allows client attachment to previously unsupported storage solutions.

Virtual I/O devices overview:
Virtual SCSI:
It needs virtual I/O server;
Virtual I/o server partition make uses of files, local volumes, whole disks or optical devices.
Client sees a hard disk or CD

Virtual Ethernet:
It does not need virtual I/O server.
Partitions on the same system communicate without using physical Ethernet adapters

Shared Ethernet adapter:
It needs VIO.

Integrated virtual Ethernet:
It provides similar functions to the virtual Ethernet adapter.
Here partitions can communicate with external physical network without going through a shared Ethernet adapter.
Virtual LAN overview:
It establishes virtual network segments on top physical switch devices.
Virtual and dedicated network devices can be used simultaneously for communication.
VLAN is described by IEEE 802.1Q standard.
Example: Two VLans
