"GridBox" is a comprehensive Smart Grid concept for the distribution grid. It is based on distributed devices for measurement and control, communicating data in real-time, constituting a comprehensive and flexible platform for applications in the distribution grid.
The GridBox concept was developed during two studies, which were supported by the Federal Office of Energy, as well as partners ewz and BKW. The "GridBox pilot grid" project is a real-world implementation of the GridBox concept in terms of a "proof of concept" in two field trial regions in the canton of Bern and in Zurich (voltage level N5 and N7).
Within the project "GridBox pilot network" the technological platform was developed and rolled out by the two grid operators and operated for one year. Algorithms for grid state estimation, grid stability and voltage control have been developed and demonstrated in campaigns. In addition, extensive analyzes of the measurement data were made and profund practical experience in installation and prosumer interfaces have been made.
