In I, Tonya, colour is used in three ways: to contrast skating with Tonya's home life, to show the passage of time from the 1970's to 1990's, and to show how her relationship to Jeff Gillooly darkens. The skating outfits are made to be accurate to Tonya Harding's hand-made competition costumes, but they took some creative liberties with her street wear. All the costumes add a little more visual detail to Margot Robbie's excellent performance.
