Old Penguin's designer, Chris Hendricks, posted a tweet commemorating the date, finding it funny that a character he used to illustrate people over 18 was turning 18, and the tweet's reception was overwhelming.
He even made a video sharing interesting facts, such as how he still has the original files with an alternate version wearing small glasses, or that the idea of depicting Old Penguin in such an aged and unattractive manner was to warn users of that age that the game wasn't aimed at them and that they might feel out of place.
Also, as a curious fact, he shares that 18 is quite old for a penguin, as some species only survive to the age of 20.
