The Burka Band is an Afghan all-female indie rock band formed in Kabul in 2002. By performing anonymously in burqas, the group openly challenges the Taliban’s restrictive rules imposed on women. Their music, “Burka Blue,” became a symbol of resistance and defiance.
This lyric video was created in solidarity with that protest and in support of women’s rights, freedom, and artistic expression.
