Intro soft palate control Exercise

If you are thinking about starting freediving with the noseclip, this is a really good exercise for you to begin with. When freediving with a noseclip it’s a must to start gaining some awareness of the soft palate, when is it closed? And when is it open? Our body already know how to control the soft palate, most of us are just not conscious about what’s going on.
Breathing through your snorkel with swimming goggles on in the water or even better, without any goggles. In through the mouth and blow bubbles out through your nose. This will train your awareness of how to control the soft palate, and get used to the flow of water under the nostrils, under and over the eyes. Many people have built up reflexes that makes them close the softpalate when these areas are being exposed to water. But also these receptors are important for quick activation of the mammalian dive response.
Have fun with the exercise.
