Now that the brain has developed a solution to fight deep shame, the Narcissist is born and needs to be maintained.
Complex Trauma results in someone constantly living in danger; in this case the danger is the feeling of shame. In order to extinguish the risk of returning to shame, the Narcissist seeks out ways to receive the validation needed in order for them to feel safe.
