Lyrics:
Down In my fathers' garden, the lilies are in flower.
And birds of every feather build nests in every bower.
Chorus:
So, near to my blonde girl, its' so good, so good, so good.
So, near to my blonde girl, its so good to sleep.
The quail and turtle dove too, the pretty partridge gay.
And my delightful sparrow that sings both night and day.
Chorus
It sings for all the daughters, who have not yet been wed.
It hardly sings for me though, for I've my handsome Ned.
Chorus
'But tell me then my lovely, where is your man today?'
'Hes' been detained in Holland, the dutch took him away!'
Chorus
'What would you give to him, dear, who seeks your man afar?'
'Oh, Saint Denis and Paris, the valley of the Loire.'
Chorus
The towers of Notre Dame, too, the town clock of Marseille.
And my delightful sparrow, that sings both night and day.
Chorus
