Princess Leia’s Theme might just be the greatest piece of music ever written for film. When I hear this piece, I think of the great unknown and all of its mysteries, questions that can never be answered. I think about the unimaginable expanses of space we can never traverse, the trillions of galaxies we share this universe with but will never visit. I think of Carrie Fisher and the ways that her energy, honesty, and wit are still at work in the universe today. For me, this music embodies and defines what it means to wonder.
I first recorded this theme a few years back at the end of my Star Wars medley. It’s so much fun to play because of its range and tempo changes, and it’s one of the few pieces I keep under my fingers regularly. I wanted to record a full version for another chance to do it justice with the arrangement and pacing.
