In the past i often got asked if i could recreate real world locations like for example new york And i always mentioned sure but it will be a lot of work.
Back then i already knowed that you can import osm data in unreal engine to match the landscape heights etc But i didnt know about Cesium it is a plugin i am following for around a year now i guess And this makes it possible to recreate the full world inside of unreal engine as you can see in the background. It not only copy the heightmap it also imports scans of the models.
Of course the scans are not that high quality but this makes it easy for artists like me to replace the buildings and match the scale of the real world city and already test everything out easily..
Also this will bring flight simulations to the next level because there your looking at the city from far away and dont even see the typical bad Quality from the scanns.
And also the ways how this could get used in metaverse applications are interesting
