In front of his farm in Upper Austria, Thomas Bernhard speaks about his childhood and youth, "The Magic Flute," Trakl, writing, solitude, the theater, "The Hunting Party," and "the German language." I have shortened the film by removing the many musical interludes (mostly impressions of Salzburg) ("The Fire and the Water Trial," Norbert Beilharz, 1978).
