How to Outline Images in GIMP
How to outline images in GIMP 2.8. I'm showing you how I make borders for images for my YouTube video thumbnails for free using #GIMP.
INSTRUCTIONS
Open the image in GIMP. Add a transparent layer by going to layer - transparency - add alpha layer. I'm outlining this flower so I'll remove the leaves from the background. I have another video on different ways to remove a background in GIMP. This time I'm using the fuzzy select tool to select the background and pressing ctrl X to remove it.
Once you've removed the background closely enough, choose the select by color tool and click on the empty background so it becomes selected. Then choose select - invert to select the image you want to outline. Go to select in the menu and choose grow... You can try different sizes, just click undo and try another one. I'm using 25 pixels here. Click ok. Now choose a color for the outline and use the bucket fill tool to fill the outline. You can drag the outlined image on top of a different background or keep the original background.
