First of all, you can connect the SSD to your PC.
Then you need to write to a Linux flash drive and start the installation. During installation, you will be able to partition the disk as needed.
I chose the BRTFS file system for myself, which allows at the file system level:
-- encrypt data with a password (what I need);
-- create snapshots in Timeshift or similar (you can also use the command line, but I love the UI).
