What we do
Guwahati Water Supply Project
The overall objective of Guwahati Water Supply Project is to:

▪ Design & Construct new waterworks facilities in the East, West, South Central and North Zones of Guwahati city to achieve potable water supply of 100% coverage of the citizens within the above area, leading to an upgraded living standard of the citizens.

▪ Develop the World class “Water & Sewerage Board” at Guwahati with the modern facilities.

The Master Plan for Guwahati Metropolitan Area 2025 sets the target of connecting "100% houses with piped filtered water by the year 2025". For achieving the target, Government of Assam has taken up three water supply projects, viz., a JNNURM funded project for the South West region, a JICA funded project for the North and South Central regions and ADB funded project for the South East region of Guwahati Metropolitan Area (GMA). The three ongoing projects are designed for providing reliable, safe and 24X7 supply of water. Government of Assam is implementing these three projects through the independent Project Management / Implementation Units. The works are in various stages of progress.

Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board will be responsible for operation and maintenance of these facilities upon their completion. It is also responsible for ensuring long-term sustainability of the entire water supply system by collecting fees from its customers, based on their actual metered water use and a volumetric tariff structure designed to guarantee water affordability for all, to cover its annual operating expenses and capital replacement costs.
