Using a Safety Encoder on AS-Interface

Helge Hornis shows you how to use a safety encoder on an AS-Interface network. Setup, configuration, and verification of a safety setup are shown, using a sheet metal roller press as an example. The AS-Interface safety system uses an e-stop that, when activated, will immediately remove power from the drive motor. The setup also includes a protective door switch. The safety encoder will be used to monitor the speed of press rotation and under special circumstances allows access to the protected area without shutting down the press. A system like this enables cleaning the press under creep conditions - increasing uptime while still protecting people.
