A lot of these things don't require money but will get you on the right path to learning from the pro's and eventually pay out way more in knowledge then it will in money.
Doing what ever you can to get into a professional investors inner circle is something I highly recommend because you are essentially trading time for knowledge towards real estate investing. If you want to start doing duplex conversions, work with a professional who does duplex conversions. If you want to invest in large, multi unit buildings, work with someone who has MASTERED renovating and holding multi unit buildings, etc, etc.
