This video should take you through the assembly and programming of a VEX Holonomic Drive. My students had trouble with these so hopefully this help demystify them a little bit.
For the build I would break up a team to have them each assemble a wheel until you have all four. Then make groups to combine the the left or right side. Then combine parts as a team.
To develop one of these drive you will have to sacrifice some C-Channel to a rotary tool. Here are the lengths that you will need:
2 - C-Channel 2x25 (standard size)
2 - C-Channel 2x17
8 - C-Channel 2x6 (make 2 from scrape of the 2x17s)
The rest of the Bill of Materials is as follows
16 - 45 degree Gussets
8 - Flat Bearings
4 - 4in Omni Wheels
4 - 393 Motors
4 - 3in Axles Shafts
4 - Shaft Collars
8 - Motor Screws
44 - Nylock Nuts
18 - 8/32 0.5in Screws
96 - 8/32 0.375 Screws
64 - Keps Nuts
4 - 0.5 x 0.25 Plastic Spacer
4 - 0.5 x 0.5 Plastic Spacer
2 - Angle Chassie Pieces 2x2x35
