💥 Sharp chest pain when taking a deep breath…
😮💨 Sudden shortness of breath…
❤️ Heart racing for no clear reason…
👉 This could be a Pulmonary Embolism (PE) —
a dangerous blood clot in the lungs.
In this video, we explain:
👉 What pulmonary embolism is
👉 Who is at risk
👉 Warning signs you should NEVER ignore
👉 How to prevent it
👉 Treatment options
🫁 What is Pulmonary Embolism?
A blood clot — usually from the leg — travels to the lungs
and blocks blood flow.
🚫 Oxygen cannot move properly
🚫 The heart has to work harder
This can become life-threatening very quickly.
⚠️ Common symptoms:
• Sudden shortness of breath
• Chest pain (worse on breathing)
• Fast heartbeat
• Dizziness or fainting
• Cough (sometimes with blood)
🦵 Warning signs in the leg (DVT):
• One leg swelling
• Calf pain
• Warmth or redness
🚨 Major risk factors:
• Long sitting (flights, travel, bed rest)
• Recent surgery or injury
• Cancer
• Pregnancy / postpartum
• Birth control pills
• Smoking
• Obesity
• Previous blood clots
🛡️ How to prevent:
✔ Move often (avoid long sitting)
✔ Walk during travel
✔ Stay hydrated
✔ Use compression stockings if advised
✔ Follow doctor advice after surgery
💊 Treatment:
• Blood thinners (Apixaban, Rivaroxaban, Heparin)
• Usually 3–6 months treatment
• Severe cases may need clot-busting therapy
⚠️ Important:
Do NOT stop blood thinners on your own.
💡 Final message:
Sudden chest pain or breathlessness is NOT something to ignore.
Sometimes the body whispers… before it screams.
