1. Social Media

Social media is an excellent tool for promotion. Having a Twitter account linked to your blog, and a Facebook page can make updating easy and simple. Using bit.ly can also help you track traffic from clicks in order to figure out which titles and blog posts are the most popular. Armed with that data, you can craft social media updates to appeal to a broader audience. Using established hashtags intelligently is a great way to tune into your demographic. Once you have enough followers, you can start coming up with your own hashtags.

It is important to note that updating too often on social media is an easy way to turn people off of your blog. Try to keep updates organic and related to your content in a way that makes sense. You should promote all of your blog posts, but just make sure you aren’t going overboard.

2. Online Communities

Self-promotion is a grey area when it comes to communities like Reddit, but you can do it successfully if you’re smart. The easiest way to do so is by purchasing affordable advertising. You can do this on a variety of platforms including many social media sites. If you aren’t looking to advertise directly, there are other ways to share your blog within online communities.

Apart from direct advertising, backlinks are a huge driving force behind successful blogs. Linking to similar blogs and having them link back to you can drive traffic and get new people looking at your work. Associating yourself with authority sites and top bloggers in your niche will get people thinking that your content is worth reading.
