There are two most popular ways to call functions for parameter passing; Call By Value and Call By Reference. The Call by Value method copies the value of an actual parameter into the formal parameter of the function. Both actual and formal parameters are stored in different memory locations. So, any changes made to the formal parameters in the called function are not reflected in the actual parameters in the calling function.
The Call by Reference method copies the address of an actual parameter into the formal parameter. Both actual and formal parameters refer to the same memory location. So, any changes made to the formal parameters in the called function are actually reflected in the actual parameters of the caller. In C, we can use pointers to get the effect of call by reference.
