I finally pulled the trigger on the SP-404A after a few years of denying my impulse. The vinyl sim effect intrigued me. Also limited samplers like this have always sparked my interest because of the challlenge.
I've actually done quite a bit of research on the 404A, I've watched plenty of tutorial videos, so I have been picking it up relatively quickly. The sequencer is a bit tricky and although I do intend to make beats on this standalone I have found it to be a nice companion to my MPC LIVE.
It's a great little sampling and processing box! It has shifted my perspective and approach to sampling. If I where to give the 404A a slogan, it would be this "music feels different when you don't look at it" I actually like that there is no waveform display, no autochop, I have to use my ears with this, and that's the best way to make music in my opinion.
