As someone who has bent rules, shown creativity and taken risks, the judges unanimously agreed on Walter Micklethwait of Inshriach as the winner of the Trailblazer of the Year award.
Inshriach House is an Edwardian country house and 200 acre estate in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. After restoring the house in his characteristically resourceful and eco-friendly style, Walter turned his attentions to building a quirky collection of unusual glamping spaces that can be booked through Sawday’s Canopy & Stars.
Walter developed Inshriach Yurt, the Bothy, the Beermoth (a former fire service truck) and the new Shepherd’s Hut as places to stay.
Walter Micklethwait says: “We are delighted to have won this award, it’s been a lot of fun developing this business; it has brought a lot of creativity and entertainment, a heap of good people and has allowed us to hang onto Inshriach through some difficult times. It's lovely to see that there may yet be sense in our nonsense.”
