Software Overview
The Price Room Designer is a software tool that designers can use to measure and visualize the comfort of a room. Currently the software supports placing Displacement Ventilation products in the room. The software takes user inputs of room and load definitions to calculate airflow requirements. The user is then able to satisfy the design requirements by selecting products. The software calculates comfort using ASHRAE formulae based on local air temperature and local air velocity.
Room Designer software contains two methods for evaluating the comfort in a room with Displacement Ventilation:
1. Draft Ratio/Rate (DR) - The percent people predicted to be dissatisfied due to Draft based on the procedure outlined in ASHRAE Standard 55-2004 and ISO 7730-2005.
2. Percent Mean Vote and SET (PMV/SET) – The Percent Mean Vote (PMV) method is based on the procedures outlined in ASHRAE Standard 55-2004 & 2010, and ISO 7730-2005. The standard effective temperature (SET) is then checked using the calculated PMV per the method outlined in ASHRAE Standard 55-2010.
It is important to note that both are valid methods of determining the comfort in a space. However, the Draft Ratio/Rate method is contained only in ASHRAE Standard 55-2004 (and ISO 7730-2005), and not the ASHRAE Standard 55-2010 edition. In ASHRAE Standard 55-2010, the Draft Ratio/Rate method has essentially been replaced by the PMV/SET method.
