In his letter to his student, Ayyuha-l-walad ("O My Son"), Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali, in the simplest and most accessible terms, presented a brief outline of the fundamentals of faith, following which is essential for achieving happiness and the salvation of the soul. Imam al-Ghazali also gave instructions on how to approach one's life, advice on finding a worthy mentor, and indications of the benefits of following the Sufi path. He also showed the path to becoming and being a true scholar, that is, one whose knowledge benefits both the scholar and the people. The Imam concludes his letter with a heartfelt supplication (dua) to the Almighty, which he recommends reciting every day.
