Handmade 18k Gold & Platinum Ring (Worth over $30,000)
This is the latest piece I made. 18k yellow gold & platinum solitaire ring for a $30,000 oval diamond. Two tone jewelry can be tricky to make because you kind of have to work in reverse and it takes more steps. That is if you want to make the piece the legit way and solder all the platinum junctions with platinum and the gold junctions with gold. Some jewelers solder the platinum with white gold but that is not the official way of doing it. You basically have to construct the piece, remove the platinum from the gold, solder the platinum and put it back into place and finish soldering with gold. That is because if you tried to solder the platinum while it was on the gold, the gold would melt. What I did with this ring was crazy glue the platinum bezel in place, fit all the prongs, tack them in place with the laser and then burn the glue off so that the platinum head falls off the gold, solder it with platinum and tack it back into place. A lot of work for a simple ring.
