Arthur C.H. Cheng: Modeling the Stress Dependence of Rock Properties

Arthur C.H. Cheng is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, specializing in Petroleum Geosciences, at the National University of Singapore, and an Adjunct Professor in the Earth Systems Science Programme at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a co-founder, with Prof. Yunyue Elita Li, of the Sustainability Geophysics Project. Prior to taking his current positions, he was Senior Manager for Acoustics and Borehole Seismics at Halliburton Technology. He received a Sc.D. in Geophysics from MIT in 1978. He was a co-founder of the Earth Resources Laboratory at MIT. He had worked for Baker Atlas, Baker Hughes Inteq, SensorWise, and RockSolidImages in various managerial and consulting capacities. He had published over 130 papers and holds 25 patents. He has co-authored two books on borehole acoustics. He is currently an Assistant Editor for Geophysics, and the Vice Chair of the SEG Foundation Board of Directors. He received the Life Membership Award from SEG in 2013, the Distinguished Technical Achievement Award from SPWLA in 2015, the SPE Formation Evaluation Award in 2016, and the Honorary Membership Award from the SEG in 2021.
