The Difference Between How Facebook, Instagram and YouTube work.

I run a 21-day video challenge group and one of the questions was about the difference between these social networks. This video attempts to share the biggest difference between each of the networks.

In recap, YouTube is the network that is most like Google and/or like a solution provider for the searcher. They come to YouTube with a question and are looking for someone to show them a video that solves that problem.

That's how Google works as well, it's a search engine. A place where people know what they are looking for (or at least have a general idea) and know that they want that question answered.

So, as someone who is going to be creating videos for YouTube you want to keep that in mind.

The videos you create that are going to be uploaded to YouTube should answer specific questions... like this one. What's the difference between Facebook, Instagram and YouTube?

This video answers that question. So if someone types that in, this video will give them the answer.

Facebook, on the other hand, is more of a friends/family/coworkers kinda place. It's the place where people end up hanging out when they're just bored and looking to pass the time.

The content that is posted there has the biggest chance to go viral in my experiences. The main reason for that is because of how easy it is to just click "share" on a post and share it with your immediate network.

But, a lot of the time the content that is posted there needs to be more emotional. A little more entertaining. You need to get someone to stop scrolling aimlessly and get hooked into your story, or into your message.

So the content you create there needs to be engaging. That's why I recommend starting off with Live video on Facebook. It teaches you how to get comfortable on camera. The good news is that for most people, your fan page doesn't have any fans so you can make a lot of mistakes in the beginning.

So the content you create on facebook has the opportunity to go viral, but it also has a relatively short-lived lifespan.

With how much news happens every day, it gets pushed down the newsfeed and disappears quickly.

The same is true of Instagram. Instagram is mainly used when people are just wasting time. When people are bored, they open Instagram on their phone and just look at whatever the people they are following are posting.

So you need to be good with pictures, good with captions and good with hashtags to really get the ball rolling over there.

You can use Instagram for the stories feature and for the live video feature in order to improve your on-camera presence. Both this and your Facebook fan page will be a good place to improve your delivery.

But you'll want to always bring the content over to YouTube once you start improving. And that's because YouTube is set up to be evergreen.
