Climate Attribution
Dr. Peter Carter, Paul Beckwith and Regina Valdez discuss the new science of attribution in meteorology and climate science referred to as climate attribution, which tries to measure how climate change directly affects recent extreme weather. It aims to determine which events can be explained by global warming and which are not simply due to natural variations.

How much does global warming contribute to various climate behaviors and how the website “climateattribution.org” provides a repository of extreme event attribution analyses. The website provides hundreds of articles on the impacts of global warming, what are the contributions of different sectors, activities, and entities to climate change.
How weather statistics have changed completely due to climate change. For example, a particular weather event, a flood, a drought, heatwave, etc, would happen maybe with the occurrence of one in 100 years or one in 1,000 years. But now, with the rapidly changing climate system, those statistics are no longer valid.
When a 1,000 year event happens every few years, or three or four of them in the space of a decade, one is led to conclude the statistics have changed making them much more uncertain. The analogy of a casino is used to help describe the dire nature of these disruptive extreme weather events.
How, according to The New York Times, many insurance companies are not going to be covering homeowners insurance in many parts of California.
How the climateattribution.org website project was started in 2015 by two leading experts and how they’ve now done 50 attribution studies and their importance in terms of clearly communicating how extreme weather events would not have happened but for global warming and climate change.
