I often get asked how to mix a snare drum so that it has a lot of punch to it. There are a lot of plugins that are very easy to use that will bring out the transients and add body to the snare, but in this video I will show you what those plugins are doing behind the scenes. My go to answer that I give when I am asked how to mix a snare drum is parallel compression. The use of parallel compression will allow me to retain the original sample of the snare, but also utilize a "crushed" snare, and mix it to taste.
