For many, autumn means vipers in the trees, ready to bite us on the neck or give birth to their young on the heads of hapless hikers and mushroom hunters... but is it really so? Taking this popular saying as a starting point, we'll learn about the habits of Italy's most feared and famous snake, the common viper (Vipera aspis), discovering whether it's truly deadly as they say and what to do if bitten.
